Does your dog Pee on the rug? Chew up your shoes? Pull you down the street? Jump on your guests? Chase and knock over the kids? Bite your hands or ankles? Raid the garbage? Bark at the mailman? Dig in the garden? Run the other way when you say "come"? Seem to have selective hearing?
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then take heart... you are not alone! You have a normal dog doing normal doggy behaviors! Unfortunately, many normal dog behaviors are considered unacceptable or "BAD" to us. So what can a dog owner do?
Learn, and Educate. First, educate yourself about how dogs learn and how to best communicate to them what we want them to do (and not to do)! Then, we can train the dog! When we take the time to learn about all the progressive, positive, proven effective dog training techniques, the training becomes fun and enriching for the dog and our relationship.
Good, solid training should teach you how to build a strong relationship with your dog and to understand how to provide effective leadership. Old, training techniques that use force and intimidation should not be a part of any modern day training program. We've gotten past the notion that you need to have your dog fear you to motivate him to listen.
Motivating our dogs to want to learn and teaching them to respond to our wishes is an adventure. It should be great fun for both the dogs and us!
is a Happy Dog!
