Debbie's Dogs

welcome to

Does your dog Pee on the rug? Chew up your shoes? Pull you down the street?  Jump on your guests? Chase and knock over the kids? Bite your hands or ankles? Rummage through the garbage? Bark at the mailman? Dig in the garden? Run the other way when you say "come"? Only sit if you have a cookie in your hand?
Virtually all 'normal' dog behavior is unacceptable to us 'humans'. We want a wonderful companion. We imagine that great dog who will give us unconditional love, bring us joy, make us laugh, and keep us company. And, oh, did I mention
we want them to have manners and to NOT do most of the dog behaviors that come natural to them? So, how do we get to the point where the dog is a well-behaved companion and not a terror on four legs?
Training.  Dogs need training. But dog training is also about teaching us (the humans) how to communicate to our dogs what it is that we want them to do (and not to do)!  It is easier to teach an animal when we take the time to learn how they (the canines) learn.  In training, we will focus on building a strong relationship with our dogs, getting them to trust us, look up to us, and willingly do what we ask them to. Motivating our dogs to want to learn and teaching them to respond to our wishes is an adventure.  It should be fun for both the dogs and us!
